UN Women remains committed to dismantling the structural barriers that sustain economic inequality and exploitation faced by women worldwide. Across many developing nations, the rapid rise of informal and gig economies has placed millions of women in vulnerable sectors such as domestic work, caregiving, street trade, and platform-based labour, often without meaningful legal protection.
These workers frequently endure unequal wages, unsafe conditions, lack of social security, and heightened risks of harassment, while facing limited access to justice. Their overrepresentation in insecure employment reflects deeper inequalities, including unpaid care burdens, financial exclusion, digital divides, and restricted pathways to formal work. This committee invites delegates to assess existing labour protections, address systemic gaps, and craft bold, gender-responsive policies that uphold dignity, safety, and economic security for women in unregulated sectors.
